Recommended system specifications:

  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater Graphics card
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater core processor
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer operating system

The recommended specifications are quite high, in contemporary terms, however with the month to month increase in technological power these specs should be a norm by 2016. Oculus Rift seeks to provide and unique and amazing experience with their VR technology and these specs should deliver the full rift experience.

The NVIDIA GTX 970 is a high end graphics card with a market price of around R5 999.  The GTX970 is able to run all the latest games with ease and should provide the same quality for the Oculus Rift.

The Intel core i5-4590 is a top range i5 processor which has become a benchmark processor in today’s computers. The processor in terms of performance and value for money is above average with several specialized sites rating the processor about a 7.9 out of 10 which makes it worth the upgrade. The price range of the processors is around R3 000.

Lastly the RAM requirement is a growing trend as more RAM is being stuffed into smartphones, tablets and computers. The greater the RAM the better the system runs. Upgrading to 8GB RAM costs around R1 500.

These upgrades total to R10 499, which is quite a large price tag to be able to run the Oculus rift. However, with game requirements increasing at a substantial rate, slowly investing in these components will sustain your gaming needs for the foreseeable future.
